Nestled in the heart of Laos lies the tranquil town of Vang Vieng. Once a notorious party destination, Vang Vieng has undergone a transformation in recent years, shedding its wild reputation in favour of a more laid-back and nature-focused atmosphere. Vang Vieng is a truly magical experience that will be amongst your favourite places to visit.

Day 1: Arrival and Exploring Vang Vieng

Morning:
- Arrive in Vang Vieng and check into your accommodation. There are various options available, from budget-friendly hostels to luxurious resorts. One recommended option is [other side bungalows], which offer a comfortable stay with stunning river views. We woke up to the sound of cows walking along the dirt road in this stay, truly emersed in what Vang Vieng has to offer!

Afternoon:
- Take a leisurely stroll around Vang Vieng town, exploring the local shops, cafes, and markets. Don't miss the [Vang Vieng Organic Farm], where you can learn about sustainable farming practices and sample fresh organic produce.

Local tip: Try the local specialty, Lao baguettes (khao jee), which are freshly baked French-style baguettes filled with delicious ingredients like vegetables, meat, and chilli sauce.

Evening:
- Enjoy a delicious Lao dinner at [Lao Valhalla], or any other option really. Vang Vieng boasts budget-friendly prices and warm vibes along the riverside.

Surrounded by towering limestone mountains, lush rice paddies, and the Nam Song River, Vang Vieng offers a stunning backdrop for outdoor adventures like kayaking, rock climbing, and hiking. The dirt bikes are an awesome adventure also. Definitely wear some sort of face covering though or else you'll be in for a treat!

Day 2: Adventure and Nature

Morning:
- Embark on a guided [hot air balloon ride]to witness breathtaking views of Vang Vieng's stunning karst landscape from the sky. Be sure to book in advance, as spots fill up quickly. (Pretty reasonable prices usually under 100$ CAD for two)

Afternoon:
- Visit the famous [Blue Lagoon] for a refreshing swim in crystal-clear turquoise waters. Tire swings and more but be wary of spiders in the sitting amongst the sitting areas!

Afterward, explore the nearby [Tham Phu Kham Cave], an enchanting cavern filled with stalactites and stalagmites. A little underwhelming in the grand scheme of caves but it is definitely still cool!

Local tip: Visit the Blue Lagoon early in the afternoon to avoid the crowds and have a more tranquil experience.

Evening:
- Head back to town and relax at one of the riverside bars or cafes, such as [Sae Lao Cafe], which supports sustainable community development projects. Enjoy a beautiful sunset over the Nam Song River.

Day 3: Culture and Scenic Beauty

Morning:
- Rent a bicycle or scooter and explore the picturesque countryside surrounding Vang Vieng. Visit local villages like Ban Pha Thao and Ban Na Kham, where you can witness traditional Lao life and interact with the friendly locals.

Local tip: Be respectful when visiting local villages, and consider bringing small gifts like pencils or notebooks for the children.

Afternoon:
- Visit the sacred [Wat That Temple] located on a small hill in town. The temple offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

Evening:
- Treat yourself to a traditional Lao massage at [Silver Naga Spa] to unwind after your adventures.

Night:
- Hang out along the music-filled rivers. You may see people searching for hidden treasures in the river and other goodies.

Throughout your 3-day itinerary in Vang Vieng, remember to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and carry insect repellent. Wear face/eye coverings if you plan to walk along dirt roads!

Relax in what Vang Vieng has to offer through all the little gems.
